Fans worldwide tune in to Beach Ball Classic
Horry County – HTC and Beach Ball Classic officials are excited to announce the 2017 online viewing results for the annual Beach Ball Classic events in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In addition to the fans in the stands at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, enthusiasts around the world in 67 countries and all 50 states viewed some of the best high school basketball thanks to the connection HTC technology delivered for streaming video.
There were over 14,000 unique visitors for viewing the games from all over the United States and numerous international locations as far away as Serbia, Egypt, and Japan.
All live video was available via the internet at www.htcconnect.com. Fans could also view the games by visiting the Beach Ball Classic website at www.beachballclassic.com and clicking on the “Live Webcast” link. Archived video is available at www.youtube.com/horrytelephone.
“It was amazing to see the overwhelming response from fans not only in the United States, but also around the world that made the choice to view some of the best high school basketball online. After 13 years of streaming the events, we are still thrilled to see that thousands of supporters continue to take advantage of this unique opportunity made possible by HTC,” said Chad Smith, Executive Committee Member and Technical Coordinator for the Beach Ball Classic.
“We were very proud to be the local partner to make this connection a reality for basketball fans around the world for the 13th consecutive year,” said Tom Vitt, HTC Director of Marketing. “The statistics prove that the demand for online viewing is critical to families and followers that are unable to attend the tournament in person. Online viewership of the tournament has been fairly consistent every year. The numbers for the 2017 Beach Ball Classic were no exception with our records indicating over 14,000 unique visitors and there were more than 24,500 pageviews this year for the tournament. Consistent with the growth in popularity of mobile video, 75% of our visitors viewed the games using mobile devices.”
When the Beach Ball Classic, one of the premier invitational high school basketball tournaments in the country, was eager to try new media for the tournament’s 25th anniversary 13 years ago, they knew who to contact for support.
“As the leader in high school basketball tournaments, we were very excited about being one of the first and possibly the only holiday tournament to date to broadcast our games LIVE via the internet and television,” said Smith. “It’s been a valuable recruiting tool for the Beach Ball Classic as it provides live coverage of the games to hometown fans and family members that can’t make the trip to Myrtle Beach. With up and coming NCAA and NBA players on just about every team, interest in each team’s home market is very high, so there is a built in audience for streaming video.”
“With the help of HTC, we have streamed hundreds of games live via the internet, and we feel like we are on the cutting edge of what is becoming the way we view sports. This is an outstanding example of local partners making our event available worldwide. Fans of each high school could watch their teams live via a broadband connection,” continued Smith.
