Computer Science/Digital Art & Design Instructor

Instructor for the following courses:

Computer Service Technology

Competencies to meet are:

Identify hardware components of a PC

Assemble a PC

Partition a hard drive

Install different types of operating systems

Manage a personal computer

Maintain a personal computer

Create a small peer-to-peer network

Document a functional computer lab

Web Page Design and Development I

Competencies to meet are:

Create a web site consisting of formatted text and images

Use Cascading Style Sheets to control the appearance of a web site

Link web pages

Create a web site on a Web Server that can be accessed over the Internet

Create a web site that uses tables

Use web forms to add interactivity to a web site

Digital Art and Design

Competencies to meet are:

Provide lay-out, computer design, electronic art, color enhancement and digital photography.

Provide student involvement in design concepts, principles and processes that meet client expectations using Adobe Creative Suite Software: Photoshop, Illustrator, Flexi-sign software and InDesign

Provide career development and employability skills in the area of Graphic Design

Ability to take the design and convert to a Rowland graphic machine to print decals, logos, etc.

Ability to wrap a car, boat, motorcycle, etc. with vinyl wrap

Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience:

4-year degree in either networking or programming.  Would have to apply for teaching certificate through the South Carolina Department of Education.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree (or 18 graduate hours) in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and industry – related certifications (for example: A+, Networks +, Security +, CCNA, etc.)

Must take software programs and change them into a format that the machine can recognize.  Must use a special language such as Python and C++, which are some of the most used in the industry. This degree would not require a South Carolina Department of Education Teaching Certificate.

At least three (3) years of experience working in the areas of Graphic design and production, wide format printing and preparation, vinyl installation (techniques and application, signage and graphics estimating, customer relations and marketing.

C. Classroom Management

Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate discipline techniques which are consistently applied.  Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.  Share responsibility during the school day for supervision of students in all areas of the school.  Provides for the supervision of assigned students when circumstances require a brief absence from the assignment.

D. Public Relations

Upholds and enforces board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations; and is supportive of them to the public.  Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.  Strives to communicate the positive aspects of the school program to the public in word and deed.  Works cooperatively with parents to strengthen the educational program for their students.  Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with other staff.

E. Professional Growth

Continues professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.  Maintains membership in appropriate professional organizations.  Cooperates with the administration in planning appropriate in-service training programs on a school or district level.  Attends staff, department and committee meetings as required. Participate in four (4) extracurricular activities as planned by the school, i.e., but not limited to, Orientation, Open Houses, Outdoor Events, etc. during the school year.  Also, will be required to alternate participation in the monitoring of students in the parking lot before/after school and during lunch.

F. Student Evaluation

Evaluates accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods such as teacher-made test, sample of students work, mastery skills check lists, criterion-referenced tests and norm-referenced tests.  Make appropriate adjustments in the instructional program based on assessed results.  Performs duties necessary to maintain the accountability required for the course programs as required.  Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.

Non-Essential Functions of this Job

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to work cooperatively with parents, school districts and agencies in providing services to students.  Ability to develop concepts and ideas and relate both in oral and written form.  Ability to administer testing instruments as required.  Must possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, teams and groups.

Work Context

Requires sitting, standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work.  Requires knowledge of certain equipment pertaining to area of program.   Responsible for implementation of Safety Program for students and monitoring of students making sure they adhere to policy.  Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers.  Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines.  Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams.  Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, and with the public.

Salary: $55,000.00 – $60,000.00
