HTC, Horry County Schools Partner to Create More eLearning Opportunities

HTC has always been a core component of the communities we serve. A primary concentration for the cooperative is education, especially in moments of need. The HTC family, like many in our community, has monitored the spread and effects of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and is grappling with the magnitude of the challenge ahead, specifically for area students.

As educators work diligently to find a way to keep students engaged in learning, it’s clear that access to the appropriate technology is paramount for success. With this in mind, HTC has partnered with Horry County Schools (HCS) to provide access to high-quality broadband services to students who otherwise would not have Internet capabilities.

“Our local educators work diligently every day to instruct and better the lives of each student,” HTC CEO Mike Hagg said. “HTC has an opportunity to support both the teachers and students of our communities through the trusted telecommunication services we offer on a daily basis. It’s our mission to connect our neighbors with the people and information vital to their daily lives, especially in times of uncertainty.”

Through this strategic partnership, HTC has identified homes with students K-12 within the HTC service areas that currently have no Internet service. HTC is providing Internet access to these students.

As our education partners become reliant on eLearning strategies during the COVID-19 outbreak, HTC recognizes those students with high-speed Internet are at an advantage. It’s our goal to ensure students who fall within the HTC service area are connected to their teachers and have the tools needed to succeed in education despite the ever-changing landscape of our region.

“HTC has taken on the responsibility of keeping our students connected to their teachers, classmates and the pertinent information needed to continue their education in what’s going to be a very disruptive situation,” Hagg said.

HTC will work tirelessly during this challenging moment to ensure our members, community, and most importantly, our students, remain connected to family and the opportunity for continued learning. HTC is dedicated to the communities we serve and stands with our members and neighbors to work together through the challenges ahead.
