What do I do if my phone says “Line in Use” but no one is on the phone and I don’t hear a dial tone?
Check that your phones are hung up properly and/or turned off.
Checking the phones can sometimes clear any trouble that you may be having and it also may reduce the chance of a service charge if your telephone equipment is found to be faulty or is the cause of the problem. The best way to check your telephone equipment:
- Unplug all equipment plugged into the phone jacks, i.e., telephones, fax machines, answering machines, etc.
- It is recommended that a corded (analog) phone be used to check the jacks for dial tone. If you do not have a corded phone, use what you have but check multiple jacks in your home.
I have noise on my telephone line, what do I do?
Noise on your telephone can be caused by many different factors. It may sound like a hum/buzz or static/crackle. If this is occurring on your telephone line, try the following:
- Check connections on the telephones and the cords connecting the telephones to the phone jacks. A loose connection can cause this issue.
Checking your telephones and connections may clear the issue and reduce the chance of a service charge if the trouble is found to be a faulty telephone.
