21 Fall 2017 | www.htcinc.net 20 www.htcinc.net | Fall 2017 Meet the heart of the Loris High School football team Fall and football go hand in hand — especially around here, where Friday night lights denote the change of season far better than any calendar. Like any local football lover, HTC knows the power of school spirit. HTC has supported high school sports for years now, and we are proud to be the local headquarters for area football coverage online and on television. HTC has long cheered on students who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities in spite of difficult circumstances, including through scholarship programs like the HTC REEL Kids awards. And, HTC initiated a program a few years back that honors students who have exhibited leadership qualities on local football teams. These students are not necessarily the most outstanding players, the kids with the best stats or the ones whose names most often make local headlines. They are, however, considered invaluable to the team — a vital organ that keeps the group alive. The “Heart of the Team” award program, now in its third season, goes to the players who know the value of teamwork. They are on time, patiently cheer from the sidelines when they aren’t on the field, and put in their time in the weight room right alongside the star players. They take the stress of daily practice in stride and study diligently to learn the game. This year, Loris High School senior Trenton Bonnett takes home the honor. He just absolutely gives you everything he’s got, every time.” In addition to their work ethic, award recipients are typically the motivational leaders of their respective teams through their actions and encouragement. They are leaders, on and off the field. “Trenton is the type of player everybody wants to have on the team,” says Coach Snider. “He’s the guy everyone wants to be around. He’s fun, he’s positive, and he has an incredible attitude. He leads by example.” And the coach knows a thing or two about leadership; he’s been at Loris High School since 2010, and he assumed the role of head coach in 2011. Over the last seven years, he’s seen firsthand how far leadership skills and a positive outlook on life can carry a student, even long after the high school football days have passed. “There’s not a doubt in my mind that Trenton will be successful later in life,” says Coach Snider. “His attitude will take him where he wants to go. There’s this old mantra: Attitude determines altitude. That just really sums him up.” “Heart of the Team” recipients are featured in a video interview shown at halftime during the HTC Game of the Week, which plays on HTC Digital Cable Channel 4. If you missed any of the action, you can re-watch the season’s best high school varsity football games on www.htcconnect.com and HTC Digital Cable Channel 4.
