But for HTC plant technicians Chad and Bryan, breakfast is a distant memory by that point — they are already out tackling the day. These HTC installation and repair specialists are wholly trained on HTC High-Speed Internet, Home Phone, Digital Cable and their respective equipment. Essentially, these men are two of 80 technicians that act as one-stop-shops, serving various areas throughout Horry County and beyond. 7:00 a.m. Upon receiving their service orders for the day, Chad and Bryan's first stop is to resolve service issues at a home. These can include an internet or cable connection issue, no dial tone on the home phone, and other issues that may arise. “HTC supplies us with high-tech meters to run tests on equipment,” says Bryan. “Say I’m going to a customer’s house that is having Wi-Fi issues, I can go there with this meter to help me easily find where the problem is occurring.” 10:15 a.m. Next up on the docket is another repair appointment — this time for a home just a short drive down the road. In addition to the sophisticated, high-tech equipment they use, the two say that the diversity and range of the people they encounter on the job are among the reasons they love working for HTC. “I like the interaction with the people as well as the technical side of things,” says Bryan. “I’m learning something new every day doing this kind of thing. It’s never dull.” Chad agrees, saying that the people he gets to work with at HTC — both his colleagues and the customers — are the biggest perk of the job. “I’ve definitely made a lot of good friends that I otherwise would never have met,” he explains. “I meet some very cool people — good people. I like that part of it.” 1:30 p.m. After a busy morning of installations, it's finally time to grab a quick lunch. Perhaps taken for granted by those not in the same industry as Chad and Bryan is a consistent schedule — a luxury the pair have sacrificed in order to serve HTC customers as quickly as possible. “Our lunch is flexible,” laughs Bryan. “You just have to work it in when you can.” 2:30 p.m. On the way to a 3 o'clock appointment, it's time for an installation — one lucky family is about to get HTC Digital Cable. Depending on the complexity and number of services involved, appointments can take anywhere from 15 minutes to three hours, which puts the team members at an average of six installations per day. For Chad and Bryan, helping their fellow community members stay connected through the services they need is the best part of working for a local cooperative. It makes sense that these two enjoy the community aspect of HTC, as they are both South Carolina natives. Originally from Nichols, South Carolina, Chad is nearing his 19th year with HTC; Bryan, an HTC veteran of 17 years, also knows these roads well, as he is from Loris, South Carolina. Of course, back when they started, a landline telephone was the king of communication. Now, the internet plays a much more prominent role in connecting us not only to one another, but to information, entertainment and more. 5:00 p.m. After a final multi-service installation appointment, it’s time to call it quits for the day. While this snapshot offers a look at a typical day in the life of HTC boys in blue, there are days when they are never really off the clock. Whether it’s a power outage or service issue, the team is on call 24/7. Bryan Tyler and Chad Hayes of HTC From crawling under houses and into attics to digging trenches and operating sophisticated equipment, these HTC team members are an integral part of our community, keeping us connected to the world and each other. They’re not just the boys in the blue — they are family and friends. If you have service issues or need to make a service request, give HTC a call at 843-369-8969 or visit htcinc.net/support.
