Block Unwanted Calls

Spoofing, Robocalling & Telemarketing is Annoying.
Here’s How to Avoid Unwanted Calls.

Sign up for the “Do Not Call” List

Tired of your phone ringing? Block those telemarketers!

Register your phone number free in the National Do-Not-Call list. Telemarketers must access the registry database and remove all numbers from their call lists and are not allowed to call you. Congress ruled in 2007 that Do-Not-Call numbers remain on the registry permanently. The only way your registration will expire is if your telephone number is disconnected and reassigned, or if you choose to remove the number from the registry. Register all your phone numbers (residential, business, wireless) by calling 1-888-382-1222 from the phone number you wish to register or register them all at once online.

Spoofing & Robocalling

Spoofing, caller ID spoofing or neighbor spoofing is a very common practice with scammers and robocallers attempting to manipulate caller ID information in ways that make calls appear to have been placed locally. While a call might originate overseas, the caller ID information on the recipient’s phone would appear as though the call is coming from the consumer’s own area code and local exchange. Scammers use spoofing to increase the likelihood that consumers pick up the phone and to increase the consumer’s trust in the call. See below for some tips on protecting yourself against spam calls.

  • Be Aware: Caller ID showing a “local” number no longer means it is necessarily a local caller.
  • Don’t answer calls from unknown numbers.
  • Don’t provide any personal information to callers.
  • Review call blocking tools on our website or from 3rd party app developers.
  • File a complaint with the FCC.

We recommend that you consider subscribing to one the optional features below to address annoyance calls. These features can be added to your phone line in My Account or by calling HTC Member Services at 843-365-2154.

Privacy Defender
Privacy Defender will intercept unidentified calls such as “Unavailable” or “Out of Area.” The unidentified callers will hear a recording that says “This number does not accept calls from telemarketers. Please hang up and place this number on your do-not-call list. If you are not a telemarketer, press the number 1 to be connected.” This is all performed before your phone rings, which means a substantial reduction in unwanted calls.

Selective Call Block
Selective Call Block allows you to block calls from up to twelve phone numbers placed on your Selective Call Block list. You can add an offensive caller to your list without knowing the caller’s phone number. Calls from phone numbers on the list are sent to an announcement that informs the caller that you are not receiving calls at this time.
