Storm-Ready Together: An HTC Guide to Staying Connected Through the Season

warning sign that reads Are You Ready?Hurricane season runs June 1 – November 30, and while things have been quiet so far, it’s never too early to brace for what might come. At HTC, we begin preparing long before clouds gather – generators are tested, sandbags are placed and our 24/7 response teams are on standby.

Before the Storm

Just as we protect our network, here’s how you can protect your home and household:

  • Charge everything: phones, tablets, extra batteries – so you’ll never be left powerless.
  • Protect your tech: whole-house surge protectors are more effective than just plugging in a power strip.
  • Plan with purpose: decide on your evacuation routes, safe meeting points and have contacts outside the storm path.

These steps aren’t just tips – they’re tools to build peace of mind.

Ride the Warning Wave

When the National Hurricane Center issues a watch (within 48 hours) or warning within (36 hours), it’s not time to panic – it’s time to prep.

  • Secure loose items outside – don’t let your lawn furniture go airborne.
  • Cover windows and garage doors – storm shutters or plywood can save them from shattering.
  • Fuel your car, fill water jugs and grab some cash – ATMs may go offline post-storm.
  • Pets? Have their supplies, carriers and pet-friendly shelter plan ready.

During the peak, stay indoors – away from windows and in a central, windowless room (if possible). Keep devices charged, flashlights close and your emergency kit at hand. Emergency kit can include water, canned food, medications and binoculars to watch our HTC crews doing their thing once it is safe.

We promise our team will respond when conditions allow – your connection is important.

After the Winds Calm

When the skies clear, the cleanup starts – but hazards remain. Watch for downed power lines, stay away from flood water and avoid driving through puddles – they are often deeper than they look.

  • Snap photos of any damage right away (helps for insurance claims).
  • Check your home for safety – structural damage, mold or insects – before resuming normal life.
  • And if your internet, TV, or phone line is out of service – we’re on it. Just report the outage through My Account or give us a call.

Hurricane-Proof Connection

At HTC, we don’t just sell connectivity – we try to protect it. During the storm:

  • Sandbags shield our buildings and equipment.
  • Backup power keeps essential systems alive.
  • Once it is safe, crews assess and repair – aiming to restore service ASAP.

We stick with you at every stage – before, during, and after.
