Local Cooperative Gifts Necessary Program Tools For Area Students

May 5, 2022, Conway, S.C. – HTC recently donated an electrical lineman technician bag and equipment to the Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) Electrical Lineman Technician Program.

The bag and equipment, which will be used by select students of the program, includes all of the pertinent tools needed to help in learning the skills needed for this unique job.

“We here at HGTC in the Electrical Lineman Technician Program are thankful for HTC’s involvement and contributions, including this generous donation of equipment,” said Scott Shoemaker, HGTC Electrical Lineman Professor. “The Cooperative’s commitment to assisting students and this program since it launched in 2015 is greatly appreciated.”

HTC is one of several utility companies in South Carolina that HGTC has partnered with to offer a comprehensive training program that will prepare candidates for entry-level line work positions in the electric or telecommunications industries.  Preparation includes providing a broad understanding of the skills, knowledge, safe work practices and physical ability required to perform line work. Students receive classroom and field training in math, electrical circuit analysis, power systems, and transformer theory, as well as safety and climbing techniques.

“The donation of this equipment is just one of the ways HTC is investing in the future of our workforce and the community,” said Craig Johnson, Director of Construction Services at HTC. “We greatly appreciate the HGTC Electrical Lineman Program, as it gives those interested in the electrical and telecommunications industries a chance to get the fundamental training and experience necessary prior to joining the workforce.”
