Halloween Movies: From VHS to Streaming

Halloween Movies: VHS to StreamingTechnology has changed a lot over the years. Our love of a good Halloween movie has not.

There was a time when watching a movie at home required a little more effort.

You checked the TV guide. You drove to the video store. You searched the shelves for something worth watching. Then you hoped someone else had not already rented the movie you wanted.

And if you chose VHS, you had one more responsibility: remembering to rewind it. Those were the days – and I still have my Blockbuster card.

Halloween Movies, Then and Now

For Halloween movie fans, technology changed the experience even more.

Cable gave us more channels and more chances to catch our favorite Halloween movies. Then came VHS, which meant we could watch them whenever we wanted.

Well, whenever we wanted and whenever the tape was available.

DVDs made things even easier. No rewinding. Better picture quality. Bonus features. And an entire collection could fit neatly on a shelf.

Then came DVRs.

Suddenly, missing the beginning of a movie was no longer a crisis. We could record it and watch it later. We could even skip the commercials.

Then streaming changed movie night all over again.

Press Play and Pick Your Poison

Today, finding a Halloween movie is much easier.

You can search for a classic, browse a category or spend 30 minutes scrolling through your options before choosing something you’ve already seen 12 times.

Technology has made movies easier to access. It has also given us more choices than ever. That is especially noticeable during October.

Want a classic horror movie? You can probably find one.

Looking for something spooky but family-friendly? There are plenty of options.

Want to watch the same Halloween movie you loved as a kid? There is a good chance you can.

The hard part is deciding what to watch. Some things never change.

The Technology Behind Movie Night

The way we watch movies has changed because the technology around us has changed.

HTC has been part of that evolution, too.

As technology moved from traditional telephone service to the connected services we use today, the way we spend time at home changed along with it.

Movie night is a pretty simple example. The technology simply makes it easier to get everyone there and press play.

And, thankfully, nobody has to rewind the tape afterward – or be charged a fee for forgetting.

Time for Fright Night

From VHS tapes to streaming libraries, technology has come a long way.

Our movie nights have changed with it.

So, as October gets underway, pick your favorite Halloween movies, grab the popcorn and settle in.

Whether your perfect fright night involves a classic, a spooky comedy or something genuinely scary, the tradition is still the same.

The only question left is: What are you watching?

Halloween Movies to Stream This October

Need some inspiration? Here are a few Halloween and horror picks to add to your watchlist:

  • Netflix: Ghostbusters, The Black Phone or Ready or Not
  • Hulu: Send Help, The X-Files or Heretic
  • Disney+: Hocus Pocus, Toy Story of Terror or ZOMBIES
  • Peacock: Obsession, Chucky or Prom Night

Streaming libraries can change, so check your service before turning down the lights and letting the fright night begin. Just don’t blame us if you suddenly need to sleep with the lights on.
