Where to Watch the Hurricanes Face-Off
Hockey season is upon us. The defending Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes open the 2026-27 season on September 29.
The Hurricanes will face the Florida Panthers at 5 p.m. on ESPN/ESPN+. The team will also raise its Stanley cup championship banner during the game.
After opening night, many local Hurricanes games will air on the newly created Hurricanes Hockey Network (HHN).
What Is Hurricanes Hockey Network?
Hurricanes Hockey Network is the new local television home of Hurricanes hockey. The network will provide live game coverage, along with pregame and postgame programming.
During the 2026-27 regular-season, ESPN, ABC and TNT Sports will carry 12 games nationally. However, HTC will not carry Hurricanes Hockey Network at his time.
Why HTC Is Not Carrying HHN
The terms for carrying this additional network do not work well for HTC or our members.
HTC pays for every video subscriber, not just the members watching a particular network. More importantly, the monthly subscriber rate would apply for 12 months, rather than only during the seven-month preseason and regular season.
Ultimately, these decisions are not made lightly. We consider several factors, including channel interest, cost and our shared responsibility to the membership.
Because an alternative viewing option is available, we believe it is in the best interest of the entire membership to let those who want to watch the programming to subscribe directly.
How to Watch Hurricanes Hockey Network
For fans in the Hurricanes’ regional broadcast territory, HHN is available as a direct-to-consumer subscription through Prime Video.
The HHN subscription through Prime Video costs $19.99 per month or $99.99 for the year. A paid Amazon Prime membership is not required. You only need a free Amazon account to purchase the Hurricanes Hockey Network subscription.
Additional distribution partners may be announced as the season gets underway. At the time of this writing, neither YouTube TV nor DIRECTV have announced whether they will be carrying the network.
A Decision Made With Members in Mind
We understand that some members may be disappointed that HTC is not currently carrying Hurricanes Hockey Network.
However, this decision reflects our responsibility to the entire membership. We continually weigh the cost of programming against the value it provides across our video subscriber base.
That does not mean HTC will never carry HHN. For now, however, we believe the available direct-to-consumer options provide a way for members who want the network to access it without passing the cost along to the entire video membership.
