Wireless Troubleshooting: Simple Fixes to Stay Connected

Person holding a smartphone with a blue home screen displaying time, date, and several app iconsImagine this: You go to check the weather, post a picture on social media, or send a text—only to notice “No Service” or “SOS” at the top of your phone screen.

We’ve all had that moment… but don’t panic just yet!

Before you consider launching your phone across the room, take a deep breath – we’ve got you covered. Thanks to today’s technological advancements, troubleshooting wireless issues doesn’t have to be a mystery. Here are several troubleshooting steps you can try at home before heading to your local HTC branch office for professional help.

Quick Wireless Troubleshooting Steps

Power Cycle Your Device

It may sound simple, but just like humans, our devices need a reboot now and then to keep them running smoothly. Restarting your phone every 3–4 days can help prevent connectivity issues.

Update Your Software

Ensure your phone is running the latest software update. Most updates happen automatically overnight, but some may require a Wi-Fi connection and a charger.

  • iPhone:
    • Go to Settings > General > Software Update
  • Samsung/Android:
    • Go to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install

Check Airplane Mode

If you see an airplane ✈️ icon at the top of your screen, Airplane Mode is enabled, which disables all wireless connections.

  • iPhone:
    • Go to Settings > Airplane Mode and toggle it OFF
  • Samsung/Android:
    • Go to Settings > Connections > Airplane Mode and toggle it OFF

Ensure Cellular Data is Turned ON

This may seem obvious, but it’s worth checking to ensure your phone is using mobile data.

  • iPhone:
    • Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data and make sure it is ON
  • Samsung/Android:
    • Go to Settings > Connections > Data Usage > Mobile Data and ensure it is enabled

Reset Network Settings

If your device hasn’t been restarted in a while, resetting your network settings can help restore connectivity.

Note: This will not erase photos, files, or emails, but it will remove saved Wi-Fi passwords, so be sure to have them handy.

  • iPhone:
    • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    • Your phone will restart, and the Apple logo should appear.
  • Samsung/Android:
    • Go to Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    • Confirm the reset, and your device will restart.

Check Your SIM Card

For phones using a physical SIM card:

  • Remove the SIM card, wipe it with a lint-free cloth, and reinsert it carefully.
  • Ensure the SIM card is placed correctly in the tray—otherwise, your device may display “NO SIM.”

For eSIM (embedded SIM) devices:

  • iPhone:
    • Go to Settings > Cellular and check if AT&T is listed. Below it, ensure “Turn On This Line” is toggled ON.
  • Samsung/Android:
    • Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Card Manager and check if the eSIM is listed.
    • If the only option available is “Add eSIM”, your eSIM may have been deleted. Contact us, and we’ll help you set up a new one remotely.
