HTC Participates in United Way Day of Caring at Ability Beyond Barriers
HTC Volunteers Come Together to Support Local Nonprofit Through Hands-On Community Service
October 14, 2024, Conway, S.C., – HTC, the area’s largest fiber internet provider, announced their honored sponsorship and participation in the United Way Day of Caring event that was held October 11th. This year’s event, hosted at Ability Beyond Barriers, further emphasizes the Cooperative’s dedication to inclusivity, accessibility and opportunity.
The event brought together volunteers from HTC, along with various sponsors and community members, to improve the Ability Beyond Barriers site, making it more accessible and welcoming. The Cooperative has championed causes that align with their core values, believing that service goes hand in hand with responsibility to the local community.
“Our participation in the United Way Day of Caring highlights the cooperative spirit that defines HTC,” said Brent Barker, HTC Manager Plant Engineering. “By coming together to support organizations like Ability Beyond Barriers, we’re making a tangible impact in the lives of those who need it most. The work we did not only beautifies the property but creates an accessible and positive environment for the people this organization assists.”
HTC, a strong supporter of community outreach, played an integral role in this year’s project. Preliminary work started on September 5th, when the Cooperative provided essential equipment, including a dozer and an operator, to prepare the site by grading the imported fill, bringing the location up to proper grade.
On the official day of the event, HTC volunteers, led by project manager Brent Barker, began work early in the morning. Key tasks included:
- Laying sod to enhance the grounds.
- Exterior painting of the buildings to refresh and uplift the space.
- Pressure washing for a cleaner, more inviting exterior.
- Landscaping improvements around the facility building.
- Clearing the wood line on the south side of the property to reduce undergrowth and enhance the area’s natural beauty.
- Constructing planter boxes to add aesthetic appeal and functional gardening space for the organization.
This year’s United Way Day of Caring reflects the Cooperative’s ongoing commitment to fostering connections and enhancing the quality of life for all residents in the community. By providing both resources and hands-on volunteer support, HTC is able to give back in meaningful ways that go well beyond the services they provide.
