HTC Helps Meet Local Needs Through Helping The Community Efforts

 

Helping the community can take many forms. Sometimes, it means filling a backpack with food for a child. Other times, it means providing everyday essentials to someone starting over.

 

This August, HTC’s Helping The Community efforts reached families and organizations in both Horry and Marion counties.

 

The efforts supported the Conway Medical Center Foundation’s Smart Snacks program and the Pee Dee Coalition’s New Beginnings Transitional Shelter.

 

Both organizations address different needs. However, they share an important goal: helping people move forward.

 

 

For many children, school meals provide a reliable source of food during the week. When Friday arrives, that support can become less certain.

 

The Conway Medical Center Foundation created its Smart Snacks program to help close that gap. The program provides nutritious, non-perishable food to elementary students across five Horry County schools.

 

Those schools include Conway, Homewood, Midland, South Conway and Waccamaw Elementary. More than 600 children receive weekend food bags each week during the school year. Each bag gives a child food to take home for the weekend. It also gives families one less thing to worry about.

 

The CMC Foundation recently launched its Fill the Box Drive to prepare for the new school year. HTC joined the effort by collecting some of the program’s most-needed items.

 

HTC donated individually wrapped Goldfish snacks and Nutri-Grain bars. Team members delivered the donations to the CMC Primary Town Center location. The effort may seem simple. However, those snacks become part of something much bigger.

 

They become food in a child’s backpack. They become support for a family. Most importantly, they help ensure hunger does not follow a child home from school.

HTC’s Helping the Community efforts also extended into Marion County this month.

 

The Pee Dee Coalition provides critical resources for people affected by domestic violence. Its New Beginnings Transitional Shelter offers women and children a safe place to begin again.

 

A fresh start requires more than a safe place to stay. It also requires the everyday items that make a house feel like home. HTC donated essential household and personal care supplies to the Pee Dee Coalition for use at the shelter.

 

The donation included air freshener, gallon-size Ziploc bags, hand soap, bar soap and trash bags. HTC also provided hand towels, washcloths, dishwashing liquid and disinfecting wipes.

 

These items help the shelter meet daily needs while supporting the women and children who call it home. For families rebuilding their lives, small comforts can make a meaningful difference.

 

Household supplies can help create a welcoming space during a difficult transition. The Pee Dee Coalition works throughout the region to provide support, advocacy and resources for people affected by domestic and sexual violence.

HTC’s Helping The Community initiative focuses on more than one cause or one community.

 

Needs exist across the areas HTC serves. That means HTC looks for opportunities to support organizations already doing important work. This month’s efforts reached children in Horry County and families in Marion County.
