HTC Supports Surfside Beach Fire Department During 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
Sponsorship and Lunch for First Responders Extend HTC’s Helping The Community Commitment
September 11, 2026, Conway, S.C. – HTC, the area’s largest fiber internet provider, supported the Surfside Beach Fire Department’s third annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb by sponsoring the community event and providing lunch for local firefighters following the climb.
The annual event brought firefighters, law enforcement officers, residents and community supporters together at the Surfside Beach Fishing Pier to honor the public safety members who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Participants climbed the pier’s stairs 26 times, representing approximately 2,200 stairs many first responders climbed while responding to the attacks on the World Trade Center.
Honoring Those Who Served
The stair climb gives the Surfside Beach community an opportunity to remember the sacrifices made by first responders while recognizing the courage and commitment of those who continue to serve today.
Participants included first responders and community members who completed the climb as a tribute to the lives lost on 9/11. Firefighters and law enforcement officers also had the opportunity to participate while wearing protective gear or weighted vests that simulated the additional weight carried by first responders.
While 26 climbs represent the approximately 2,200 stairs many first responders climbed at the World Trade Center, some participants chose to go beyond that mark. During the event, several participants continued climbing well past the 26 climbs, dedicating additional trips up the pier to multiple people they personally remembered and honored. It was a powerful reminder that the event carries both a national significance and a deeply personal meaning for those who take part.

Providing lunch after the climb was a small way for HTC to show our appreciation for all they do.”
Supporting Local First Responders
Following the stair climb, HTC employees provided lunch for members of the Surfside Beach Fire Department. The meal extended HTC’s “Helping The Community” initiative beyond the event sponsorship and gave employees an opportunity to personally thank the firefighters for their service.
