Career and Technical Education Month: Building Bright Futures
February isn’t just the month of continued resolutions; it’s also Career and Technical Education Month (CTE). This nationwide celebration highlights the importance of preparing students for high-skill, high-demand careers through hands-on learning and industry engagement.
At HTC, we’re not just about keeping you connected to the internet, we’re also all about connecting with the next generation of dreamers, doers and future leaders right here in our community. Over the past few years, we’ve had the privilege of getting involved in CTE in some eventful ways.
Career Days: Inspiring Futures Across All Ages
From tiny tots at elementary schools to ambitious collegiate engineers, we’ve taken part in career days across the area. Whether we’re fielding questions about fiber optics or sparking interest in cybersecurity, it’s always enjoyable to share what makes the telecommunications industry tick. Who knew talking about signal strength could light up a room full of middle schoolers?
Hosting Tomorrow’s Innovators
Over the past few years, our doors have swung open to groups of enthusiastic students from the Academy of Arts, Science, and Technology. These high schoolers brought their questions, fresh ideas and boundless energy into our space—and we loved every second of it.
At the collegiate level, we’ve been honored to host civil and electronic engineering students from Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) and Coastal Carolina University (CCU). Watching these students connect the dots between their coursework and real-world applications is a reminder of why we do what we do.
This February, we keep the momentum going with a special event for HGTC students. Our guest speakers are ready to enhance student knowledge with insights into civil engineering and electronic technology. This event includes hands-on activities, because what’s a day of learning without a little excitement?
Pathways to Possibilities: Making Career Dreams Come True
For the past several years, we’ve participated in the Pathways to Possibilities event—a massive two-day extravaganza at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center that brings together middle school students from across a four-to-five-county area. Think of it as a career expo on steroids, where students get to explore, tinker and dream about their futures.
We’ve invested time setting up engaging exhibits, answering questions and watching those lightbulb moments happen. Seeing students walk away inspired makes every minute worth it.
Why It Matters
Career and Technical Education Month is not just a feel-good initiative, it’s a movement that equips students with the tools they need to succeed. Whether they’re setting their sights on engineering, telecommunications or another technical field, CTE creates opportunities for hands-on learning and meaningful connections.
And for us at HTC, this isn’t just about ticking a box. It’s about investing in our community, nurturing local talent and showing the next generation that their potential is limitless. Here’s to a February filled with inspiration and education. Happy Career and Technical Education Month, everyone!
