No Cable? No Problem.
In the 1980’s, and the decades since, cable TV was king. MTV had launched and the latest music videos had us wondering if we’d ever listen to the radio again. Sports scores? Why wait for the evening news or morning paper? Sports Center had them for you. Cable TV was was the go-to source for news, sports, and entertainment.
It all seems so retro now. In today’s digital era, streaming platforms have emerged as a powerful alternative, offering convenience, control, and choice through their vast content libraries.
While many people like the familiarity of traditional cable TV, there’s no longer a strong reason to have a traditional cable subscription. Yes, we just said that. Your cable company just told you there isn’t a reason to keep cable TV if you want to explore other available options. With both free and paid streaming services available, you have plenty of options. Many of which are less expensive than the cable TV package you currently have.
Let’s look at how to navigate replacing your programs:
- Local news. This is probably the most popular concern we hear about. Luckily there are several options for you. Platforms such as Local Now, Haystack News, or Zeam bring local news to you, from your favorite networks for free 24 hours a day. You may also want to check, as many of your local broadcast stations have their own platform, and you can stream directly from them.
- My favorite shows. Here is where the options abound! Each of the networks have a platform for their shows. Like CBS? Paramount Plus has all your programming and more. NBC? You’ll want to head over to Peacock. Much of ABC and FOX programming can be found on Hulu. While this is not necessarily the a la carte folks have been looking for in cable TV programming, it is as close as we are likely to get.
- Sports! I need cable TV to watch sports. Historically, most of the biggest sporting events are on cable TV. However, over the past few years we have seen a shift on this. More and more sporting events have landed on streaming platforms. NFL playoff games on Peacock. Netflix aired NFL games on Christmas, and we’ve seen Thursday night football on Amazon Prime over the past few seasons.
Speaking of sports, the Big Game, arguably the most watched sporting event of the year will not only be on network TV this year, but it will also stream for free on Tubi TV. Not familiar with Tubi? Tubi happens to be the fastest growing free TV platform (Free Ad Supported Television) in the country. On average, over 90 MILLION folks watch the platform monthly.
The verdict: Cut the Cord and Save
Cable TV is no longer a necessity in a world where streaming services offer affordable, flexible, and high-quality entertainment. There’s something for everyone.
No Cable? No problem. With cable TV packages now upwards of $125 monthly, it’s time. The verdict: cut the cord and save!
By switching to streaming, you can save money, access more content, and enjoy greater flexibility—all without being tied to a cable. It’s time to embrace the future of entertainment and finally cut the cord!
