Interns Incoming! HTC Summer Internship Program Begins This Month
For more than two decades, HTC is proud to have hosted a summer internship program that allows college students to spend their summer working at the nation’s largest telecommunications cooperative.
The internship program aims to challenge college students to reach their fullest potential. To do so, they work in many different departments at HTC, giving them the opportunity to experience the corporate workplace. While HTC offers internships in many departments, the most popular requests are Marketing, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, IT, and Supply/Inventory.
This summer, HTC will host 24 interns from several colleges throughout the state, including: Clemson; Coastal Carolina University; Horry Georgetown Technical College; Charleston Southern University; College of Charleston Presbyterian College; and Florence Darlington Technical College.
Summer Events
Along with gaining experience and knowledge, HTC interns participate in a variety of activities throughout the summer. The program includes professional development events, networking opportunities, hands-on field work, team building, luncheons, and interactions with the Cooperative’s employees and leadership team.
With the luncheon, interns can ask HTC leadership team questions about their careers, experiences and receive advice. Many HTC leaders were in the same seats as the interns just a few years ago. The goal is for interns to form connections and realize they, too, can be leaders one day.
We at HTC believe professional development events highlight skills that are valuable in the workforce. The 2024 summer intern program will help interns improve their presentation skills, collaborate with coworkers from different generations and build their individual brands.
HTC interns must also complete a summer project. Summer projects range from social media campaigns, to bucket lists. Bucket list items include shadowing a different department of HTC, participating in an employee appreciation event, and attending a team meeting.
Helping the Community is a core value of HTC. So, it’s no surprise that each intern is required to complete at least eight hours of community service. Not only does it give interns an opportunity to spend time in the community, but the long-term goal is also to inspire these young men and women to adopt an attitude of giving back.
Growing Tomorrow’s Leaders
Employees at HTC greatly anticipate the arrival of our interns each summer and enjoy the opportunity to be mentors. The summer internship program is a great opportunity for college students to learn about the telecommunications industry. Additionally, it also provides opportunities to network with professionals. With the hope that each intern takes advantage of the opportunities and experiences that are at their fingertips and uses their summer at HTC to grow.
