2020 HTC REEL Kids Honored in Televised Ceremony

REEL kids
HTC CEO Mike Hagg presents a REEL Kid with his medal during a ceremony in 2016.

Since 2001, HTC has recognized exceptional students in Horry County through the HTC Recognizing Extraordinary Examples of Leadership (REEL) Kids program. The REEL Kids program may have a different look and feel from years past, but we couldn’t let the COVID-19 pandemic take away from the stories of these brave young women and men.

These students are worthy of recognition for their outstanding leadership qualities and overcoming tremendous adversity. They’re not only creating a positive future for themselves, but they also act as a source of encouragement for their classmates and teachers.

Each school in Horry County is encouraged to nominate one extraordinary student, and since its inception, the REEL Kids program has received 100 percent participation. Each Horry County school is represented with a REEL Kids award winner.

As part of becoming an HTC REEL Kid, each child, along with his or her teacher, principal or guidance counselor, is interviewed for an HTC REEL Kids televised segment. The students, their parents or guardians, and nominating party are invited to the annual REEL Kids banquet.

In order to protect the health of our local students and community from the effects of COVID-19, HTC designed the 2020 REEL Kids program a bit differently. In lieu of the traditional ceremony, each child received a gift card to a local restaurant to allow the family a celebratory dinner when they feel comfortable, a REEL Kids t-shirt, medal of recognition, and letter from HTC CEO Mike Hagg.

Each student will also be featured in a televised special program planned to air in fall 2020. HTC will announce the date and time of the REEL Kids televised event when the details are finalized.

Each child’s inspiring story of overcoming adversity will be featured in the virtual ceremony. Below is a list of each of the 2020 HTC REEL Kids. Congratulations to each student!
