Stars, Stripes & Summer Fun

If you missed the fun and fireworks at Conway Riverfest this past weekend, you missed only one of the exciting events that are going on to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America! Grab your tri-cornered cap and kerchief and let’s explore the upcoming events in our area.

Gather at the beaches in Horry and Georgetown counties by 1:00 pm on Saturday July 4th for The Salute from the Shore. The flyover begins at 1:00 from Cherry Grove Pier and will travel south along the Grand Strand.

Participating Aircraft:
  • Active Military Jets: F-16 fighter jets from Shaw Air Force Base (and McEntire Joint National Guard Base), C-17 Globemaster III from Joint Base Charleston, and a formation of Apache helicopters from the South Carolina Army National Guard.
  • Civilian Warbirds: An all-volunteer brigade of slower vintage aircraft follows the military jets. This group includes historic T-34s, T-6s, T-28s, and P-51 Mustangs. Because these planes travel at different speeds, they can lag behind the fighter jets by up to 45 minutes.
