5 Telecom Trends: Shaping How We Stay Connected – Part 2
In part 1 of our Telecom Trends blog we discussed fixed wireless, satellite internet and 5G service.
So here in part 2, let’s dive into the cord-cutting phenomenon and fiber optic networks and the impact these have on our daily lives.
#3: Cord-Cutting is in Full Swing as Streaming Takes Over
More and more HTC members are choosing to move away from traditional cable TV and toward streaming options. Subscriptions to Direct TV, YouTube TV and Hulu with Live TV are chipping away at the traditional cable market. Even HTC’s offering, HTC TV Max, is experiencing a shift in subscribers.
And we’re okay with that.
Why, you ask? Because we know that the costs keep going up. Retransmission consent fees, live sports negotiations, increase in production costs for high quality programs (we’re looking at you Friends) and lost revenue due to declining viewership are all contributing factors. To offset the charges, HTC passes along a portion of the increase to members.
#4: The Big National Fiber Push – And HTC’s Role in It
Across the country, fiber optics delivery is recognized as the technology that will carry us into the future. It’s fast, dependable, and built to handle everything modern households throw at it.
HTC has been ahead of this trend for years. As the largest telecommunications cooperative in the United States, we’ve continued expanding fiber deeper into our communities so members can enjoy:
- Faster speeds
- More reliable service
- Better upload capabilities (great for remote work and video calls)
- A future-proof connection that supports next-generation technology
This nationwide fiber movement isn’t just a trend; it’s becoming an essential part of daily life. HTC is proud to bring that future home to our members.
Even with our member’s freedom to choose their own video subscriptions there is still that one, major, opportunity for us to do what we do best – provide them with the fastest, most reliable fiber powered internet around.
Our members may be streaming a movie in 4K in the living room, have dad watching sports on the back porch, have kids watching YouTube on a tablet in the kitchen and someone else gaming on a PC, all at the same time. That’s why HTC continues to upgrade and expand our fiber network, ensuring our members can stream with no buffering, no doubts and no stress.
#5: Most Homes Have Now Become Smart Homes
If it feels like everything in the house now needs Wi-Fi, you’re right. From cameras and smart TVs to doorbells, thermostats, appliances, gaming systems, and school laptops – the average HTC member household now juggles more than connected devices than ever. More and more homes, regardless of the age of the member, have brought more devices into their homes over the last few years and that trend will continue.
That is why we’ve expanded our Smart Wi-Fi offerings and support services over the last few years. HTC’s efforts have helped our members get stronger and smarter Wi-Fi coverage throughout their homes. With HTC’s fiber network and Smart Wi-Fi solutions, families can stay connected in every room with fewer dead zones and smoother performance no matter where they decide to use their internet. From the front door to the back porch, HTC Smart Wi-Fi has you covered.
Keeping Our Community Connected, Today and Tomorrow
As technology evolves and we see trends come and go, rest assured HTC will always monitor, adapt and innovate. The trends featured in this blog may be national, but their impact is local, affecting how our children learn, how we work and how our homes stay connected.
HTC is here to make sure our members are ready for what’s next, with ongoing upgrades, continued network investment, and the hometown service they have trusted for nearly 75 years.
