August 16, 2022, Conway, S.C. – HTC has announced long-time Chief Executive Officer Mike Hagg will be retiring before the end of 2022. Hagg’s retirement comes after nearly three decades of service with HTC.

Hagg joined HTC in 1994 and was named CEO in 2010. Prior to assuming this role, he served in several different positions and departments, including Chief Operating Officer. In total, Hagg has approximately 40 years of telecommunications experience.

“Mike has been a dedicated and talented leader of HTC during his 28 years of service,” said Charles Whaley, president of the HTC Board of Directors.  “His leadership ability and overall work ethic is evident to those who have worked with him.  We, as a cooperative, have been very fortunate to have Mike shepherd us through such a tremendous growth phase and are very appreciative of his dedication and commitment to HTC. “

In addition to his work with the Cooperative, Hagg also spent countless hours serving on numerous committees and boards throughout the community, including: Coastal Carolina University Educational Foundation; Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Authority; Myrtle Beach Sunrise Rotary Club; Northeast Strategic Alliance (NESA); Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce; South Carolina Telecommunications Broadband Association; Rural Telecom Insurance Corporation; and Telcom Insurance Group.

“I am very thankful for my time at HTC and will remember it fondly as I move to the next chapter of my life,” said Hagg. “As I leave, I am confident HTC is in a position to not only be a leader when it comes to the telecommunications space, but also when it comes to helping our communities grow and prosper. I’m thankful to each and every HTC member, employee and partner for allowing me to serve such a great organization over the last 28 years.”

Chief Operating Officer Carlton Lewis has been selected by the HTC Board of Directors to be the next CEO of the Cooperative. An Aynor native, Lewis is a 24-year employee of HTC and previously served as Chief Financial Officer for eight years.

“We have great confidence in Carlton’s leadership,” continued Whaley. “His talent and interpersonal qualities, as well as his experience and knowledge of the telecommunications industry will allow for a seamless transition.
