21st Annual Event Held To Recognize Students Who Demonstrate Leadership Excellence While Overcoming Life Challenges
Conway, S.C., April 29, 2022 – HTC held the Cooperative’s Recognizing Extraordinary Examples of Leadership (REEL) Kids celebration this past Thursday at Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach. The REEL Kids program, which was launched in 2001, is structured to recognize students who demonstrate leadership excellence while overcoming life challenges.
This year, for the first time in REEL Kids history, HTC had the opportunity to expand the program beyond Horry County schools to now also include schools from both Georgetown and Marion counties.
As part of the celebration, this year’s REEL Kids were able to tour the Aquarium, were provided lunch and heard from Coastal Carolina University Head Football Coach Jamey Chadwell. Coach Chadwell’s speech focused on the importance of perseverance, overcoming adversity and being the best student, friend and teammate possible. In addition, current Las Vegas Raiders (and Socastee High School graduate) Hunter Renfrow sent in a special video message congratulating the 2021-22 REEL Kids award winners.
“When we receive the nominations from the schools and read about the hardships these young people have endured, we are humbled,” said Mike Hagg, HTC CEO. “The most remarkable fact is that the REEL Kids have overcome what some would have seen as stumbling blocks. It is our pleasure to be able to provide this program for them to be recognized for their great accomplishments.”
