HORRY COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA – HTC Digital Cable announced today the airing of the 19th Annual HTC REEL Kids (Recognizing Extraordinary Examples of Leadership) Awards Ceremony. The premiere episode of the 2019 Ceremony will air Sunday afternoon, August 4 at 2 pm on HTC Digital Cable Channel 4.
Future airings will continue on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 9 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. throughout the upcoming months. Visit https://www.htcinc.net/residential/digital-cable/local-programming/ for more information about programming.
Viewers will be able to watch 52 students, representing Horry County Schools, receive their HTC REEL Kids awards. Each recipient has proven themselves through scholastic, athletic and community achievements in the face of recent obstacles or extenuating circumstances.
HTC invited a REEL Kid success story to inspire the award winners. This year’s story was Benjamin Lay, who was honored in 2006 by the Academy for Arts, Science, & Technology. Given a 90% chance of dying, Ben’s extraordinary story of survival began with the fight and defeat of cancer as a high school junior. Even though cancer came back with a vengeance years later, Ben is now cancer-free and has courageously taken the reigns of his life to forge a path of hope and optimism.
Currently living in Nashville, Tennessee, he has carved out a very successful life in business working in the financial sector and corporate real estate industry. He gave an uplifting speech to the 2019 REEL Kids about the impact the REEL Kids program had on his life and encouraged the REEL Kids with inspirational words of support.
HTC looks forward to working with guidance counselors and teachers in Horry County Schools again through the nomination process that starts very soon for the 2019-2020 school year.
